Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy

Dr. Schreiber’s chiropractic practice is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal pain and injuries, with an emphasis on the structure and function of the human body.

After injuries, joints may lose some of their range-of-motion. Dr. Schreiber utilizes chiropractic manipulation or mobilization to restore normal function and motion. Generally, this technique employs gentle pressure or a shallow thrust to restore optimal motion. An adjustment is sometimes accompanied by a “popping” noise, which results from the joint’s release of gas. Almost all joints can be mobilized or manipulated (including the neck, back, shoulder, elbow, wrist hand, hip, knee ankle, feet and even the jaw!)

To date, many studies of the chiropractic adjustment have proven its effectiveness, safety and high levels of patient satisfaction. In 1994, the U.S. Agency for Health Care Policy deemed this technique as the gold standard for treating low back pain. Since the agencies initial findings, more research has been conducted on neck pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome and physical rehabilitation. Each of the study’s findings supports the role of chiropractic care and its manipulative procedures.

Acupuncture/Dry Needling

Acupuncture can dramatically reduce pain! It stimulates the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters, which are natural pain killers. The needles also act as a stimulus, blocking the pain response to and from the brain. Thus, pain is restored, function is improved, allowing your body to heal.

The American College of Physicians has recommended acupuncture, as well as chiropractic manipulation, as the first-line treatment for lower back pain. Acupuncture has been shown to relieve pain, anxiety, and muscle spasms. Many patients that have chronic pain find relief with acupuncture.

Generally, needle insertion does not hurt. Electrical stimulation may also be used to further stimulate the needles and reduce pain.

Sports and Injury Rehabilitation

Pain often causes you to change how you move. Unfortunately, these movement patterns don’t always go back to normal once the pain is gone. Functional rehabilitation addresses these dysfunctional movement patterns and strength imbalances to restore proper mechanics. We will identify dysfunctional patterns during the initial stages of treatment and give you exercises to help correct faulty movement patterns so that you can get back to your life, sport, or activity as soon as possible!

A previous injury is one of the most important risk factors for suffering a future injury. To reduce the risk of future injury, we use the Functional Movement Screen and other movement assessments which test for muscle imbalances and movement asymmetries. The Functional Movement Screen is utilized by mainly professional sports teams, including the NBA, MLB, and NFL, to keep their athletes on the field.

Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy is a powerful new solution for many painful conditions. Laser therapy is a highly effective alternative to traditional therapies for a wide range of problems. Laser therapy quickly reduces pain and inflammation as well as shortens recovery time!

You will feel a sense of warmth with each laser treatment, as the laser reaches damaged cells and tissues. Results are typically faster than many other therapeutic modalities. Improvement can often be seen after the first or second treatment. MN Spine and Sport uses the Diowave 60 Watt Laser, the strongest and most effective laser available.

Conditions that respond well to laser therapy:

  • Neck Pain
  • Elbow Pain
  • Wrist Pain
  • Hip Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Mid Back Pain
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Foot Pain
  • Ankle Pain

Additional conditions treated may also include:

  • Arthritis
  • Nerve Pain
  • Neuropathy
  • Trigger Points
  • Muscle Spasm

Spinal Decompression

Ever had arm or leg pain? How about disc herniation, sciatica or disc degeneration? Spinal decompression has been proven to relieve pain associated with bulging and herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and even failed back surgery of the neck and the lower back.

The treatment takes about 20 minutes. You are strapped to a table. As it moves, a distraction force is applied to a targeted area of the spine. A computer controls the distraction force which is applied in between periods of relaxation. This gently pulls the spine apart elongating it and creating a small vacuum between the vertebrae which pulls the disc and other spinal structures back into shape.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) involves directing powerful, pulsed energy waves toward damaged or injured areas. These waves quickly pass through the cells in the damaged region, increasing the spin of the electrons contained within them as a result. What does this mean for you? Decreased pain and inflammation!

Typical treatment is around 15 minutes and you may feel a pulsing sensation and some achiness in injured areas.

Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology tape is useful for restoring posture, decreasing swelling and inflammation, preventing over-contraction of muscles after an injury, and providing support to an injured area. Kinesiology tape stimulates receptors in the skin which helps to decrease pain in the area. The tape also lifts the skin away from the muscles and fascia which promotes blood to the area to accelerate the healing process. Unlike traditional athletic tape, kinesiology tape is stretchy so that it promotes movement instead of restricting it. Kinesiology tape is a great adjunct all the other services that MN Spine and Sport has to offer!

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization/Graston

Your muscles, fascia, ligaments, and tendons can contribute to pain and can also influence how well you move. Soft tissue therapies such as Graston Technique, FAKTR, and manual therapy work to reduce muscle tension, decrease pain, and improve range of motion.

IASTM is performed with ergonomically designed instruments that detect and treat fascial restrictions and effectively treat soft tissue fibrosis, chronic inflammation, or degeneration.

Cupping is a practice used in traditional medicine in several parts of the world, including China and the Middle East. It involves creating suction on the skin using a glass, ceramic, bamboo, or plastic cup. Negative pressure is created in the cup either by applying a flame to the cup to remove oxygen before placing it on the skin or by attaching a suction device to the cup after it is placed on the skin.

At MN Spine and Sport, we take cupping to a new level! We use silicone cups; they conform much more easily to an individual’s skin than plastic or glass. Not only does cupping bring blood and nutrients to the injured area, we also perform functional movements with them applied. This unique treatment allows for decreased muscle tightness, decreased pain, increased range of motion and increased healing time!

Specialized Orthotics

Are Plantar fasciitis, foot and ankle pain preventing you from reaching your optimum potential? Custom orthotics may be for you! They are prescription medical devices that you wear inside your shoes to correct biomechanical foot issues such as problems with how you walk, stand, or run. They can also help with foot pain caused by medical conditions such as diabetes, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, and arthritis. Orthotics may even help you avoid surgery to fix flat feet!

At MN Spine and Sport, our foot orthotics are specifically customized for you and no one else. They match the contours of your feet precisely and are designed to maximize correct biomechanics while decreasing your pain!

Dr. Schreiber will work with you to build your confidence and allow you to take control of your health. All plans are tailored to your unique nutritional needs based on your medical history and goals.

The frequency of appointments is dependent upon your current nutrition status and goals. Most patients are seen every 1-4 weeks. It is common to meet more frequently in the beginning and then less frequently as time goes by. Nutrition counseling is most effective when you have regular appointments to check in on progress, receive nutrition guidance and develop new goals.

Fat Loss Laser – Zerona

Zerona is the first and only non-invasive body contouring procedure that has ever been approved by the FDA. The process is completely pain-free and very safe. There is no swelling, bruising or recovery time. Patients get the best results when combined with a proper diet and exercise. In clinical trials, the average client lost 3.72 inches! MN Spine and Sport has the only Zerona Laser in the Woodbury area.

Each session takes less than an hour; the Zerona low-level laser is used for a total of 40 minutes. The laser is applied to the targeted area, which is generally a combination of the waist, hips, thighs, arms, chest, knees, ankles and back or bra fat for 20 minutes on the front side. The patient then turns over and the very same treatment is applied to the back side. The minimum treatment period is two weeks, with three full sessions each week.
