Cupping

Cupping Treatment in Woodbury, MN

Cupping is a practice used in traditional medicine in several parts of the world, including China and the Middle East. It involves creating suction on the skin using a glass, ceramic, bamboo, or plastic cup. Negative pressure is created in the cup either by applying a flame to the cup to remove oxygen before placing it on the skin or attaching a suction device to the cup after it is placed on the skin.

At MN Spine and Sport, our Woodbury chiropractors take cupping to a new level! We use silicone cups; they conform much more easily to an individual’s skin than plastic or glass. The silicone cups have handles, which allow mobilization of the skin and soft tissues.

Not only does cupping bring blood and nutrients to the injured area, but we also perform functional movements with them applied. For example, if you have a stiff hamstring when performing a squat, we can apply then to the back of the legs and then have you squat. The cups suck in the superficial tissues while allowing deeper layers to move more freely. This is one of the only decompressive treatment methods available. We are the only office in Woodbury and the surrounding areas that offer this type of cupping! This unique treatment allows for decreased muscle tightness, decreased pain, increased range of motion, and increased healing time!
